Closure of “MRC Sri Lanka Relief Fund” opened by the Maldivian Red Crescent to donate funds to support the response and recovery efforts of the humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka caused by Cyclone Ditwah

The “MRC Sri Lanka Relief Fund” was opened by the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The fund was opened from 01st December 2025 to 10th January 2026 and raised a total of MVR 204,220.67 and USD 4,697.20.

On 14 December 2025, MRC together with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), facilitated a dedicated policy session on institutionalizing Anticipatory Action (AA) during the meeting of the National Disaster Management Steering Committee. The Steering Committee tasked with guiding technical coordination and policy direction for disaster risk management brought together representatives from key government agencies, first responders, and national institutions.

In light of the catastrophic flooding and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah and the urgent humanitarian needs outlined in the IFRC Emergency Appeal of CHF 5 million, the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) announces the extension of the MRC Sri Lanka Relief Fund.
