The Y-Adapt training is a core component of MRC's approach to building youth climate leadership, equipping young people not just with knowledge, but with the confidence and tools to translate that knowledge into action at the local level. Through interactive sessions, participants explored the causes and impacts of climate change, examined the vulnerabilities and capacities within their own communities, and began to identify ways they can lead climate adaptation efforts on their own island.
The training in Gadhdhoo follows a similar session held in N. Velidhoo earlier this year, reflecting MRC's deliberate effort to bring Y-Adapt to youth volunteers across its units, building a network of young climate leaders from the north to the south of the Maldives. Together, these trainings form part of a growing body of work that places youth at the centre of climate action in the Maldives. Recognising that the young people who live on these islands are not just the generation that will inherit the impacts of climate change, but the generation best placed to lead the response to it.
This activity is part of the Youth-Led Urban Resilience and Climate Action Project, delivered by MRC in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Italian Red Cross.
