Become a volunteer
Volunteering with MRC means more than giving your time. It means becoming part of the world's largest humanitarian network building skills, making connections, and making a real difference in your community.
Volunteers are the heart of everything we do. Across every Programme, every island, and every community we serve, it is our volunteers who make it possible. They embody the communities they come from, carry the values, the lived experience, and the deep human connections of the people around them. Every time they are called upon, they bring all of that with them. In their response to a crisis, their presence at a training, or their quiet support for someone who needs it, you see not just a volunteer but a community standing up for itself.
That is what MRC is made of, and what makes our work genuinely meaningful.
Volunteering with MRC is more than giving back. It is a way to learn new skills, build lasting friendships, connect deeply with your community, and become part of something much larger than yourself. Whether you are responding to an emergency, providing First Aid , or simply showing up for someone who needs support, your contribution matters.
Volunteering with MRC is open to everyone regardless of nationality, background, age, or experience. All you need is the commitment to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and adhere to the MRC Code of Conduct.

Fiunaz Waheed
Male' City Unit, volunteering with MRC since 2014
Having been encouraged by some colleagues I worked with during tsunami relief efforts, I began volunteering for MRC in 2014. I think it’s important to give back to the community during times of need. I want to use my skills and abilities and work with other volunteers in a very supportive and fun environment, because I enjoy the bonds formed with volunteers working together in such extreme situations. The feeling of being a part of this community of volunteers who share similar values and desires is hard to quantify.

Where you can make a difference
MRC volunteers contribute across all of our Programmes and services. Your role depends on your skills, your location, and the needs of your Unit. Some roles require specific training which MRC provides. Whatever your skills, your schedule, or your island, there is a role that fits. Every contribution matters and every volunteer makes a difference.
Be on the ground
For people who want to respond, react, and be there when it matters most. Deploy with Emergency Response Teams during floods, fires, and crises. Provide first aid and patient transport. Reach out to vulnerable communities and support people in their most difficult moments.
Build and train
For people who want to educate, empower, and build lasting capacity. Deliver First Aid and Psychosocial support training to communities, schools, and institutions. Facilitate disaster preparedness workshops or youth leadership Programmes.
Support and organize
Contribute your skills in administration, coordination, data management, and logistics. Support event planning, volunteer management, and the day-to-day operations that allow MRC's frontline work to happen. Every Programme or service depends on people who make sure things work.
Care for your community
Support healthy ageing programmes that bring people together. Contribute to community health outreach that reaches families before illness does. Some of the most important humanitarian work happens long before any emergency
Create and communicate
For people who want to tell stories, raise awareness, and amplify impact. Support documenting MRC's work through photography and video. Manage social media, write content, and help share the stories of the communities we serve. Support fundraising campaigns and humanitarian awareness events that grow MRC's reach across the Maldives.
