The sessions reached students across different age groups, with copies of the book donated to the school to continue inspiring young readers beyond the sessions themselves. Through the story, students were introduced to themes of ecosystem restoration, coastal care, and the role that individuals even young ones can play in protecting the natural environment around them. In a country as deeply connected to its ocean and coastlines as the Maldives, building this awareness from an early age is not just meaningful but essential.
The activity reflects the broader ambition of MRC's climate and youth work, which seeks to build a generation of young people who understand the climate challenges facing their islands and are equipped and inspired to respond. Whether through innovation challenges for older youth or storytelling sessions for younger children, MRC believes that climate awareness must be cultivated at every stage, because the communities that will need to adapt to a changing climate are being shaped today.
