MRC Kulhudhuffushi City Unit Responds as Severe Flooding Hits Kulhudhuffushi City

MRC’s Kulhudhuffushi City Unit, supported by the North Regional Office, mobilised quickly to support the emergency response alongside the Kulhudhuffushi City Council and partner agencies contributing to operational logistics, dewatering efforts, and the coordination of the Emergency Operations Centre established to manage the situation and assist affected residents.

MRC’s response centred on supporting the City Council’s Emergency Operations Centre - the coordination hub for receiving reports from residents, directing resources, and maintaining communication across agencies. Working alongside the Kulhudhuffushi City Police, MNDF, Public Works, Kulhudhuffushi Airport, RDC, and Rainbow Construction, MRC volunteers contributed to a sustained, coordinated multi-agency effort supporting dewatering operations, assisting with sandbag distribution to prevent further water ingress into homes, and remaining active throughout the operation for as long as the response required. Their commitment on the ground, through what was a demanding and continuous effort, was central to the response.

MRC’s response in Kulhudhuffushi reflects the organisation’s role as an auxiliary to public authorities in emergency situations - ready to mobilise its volunteers and support coordinated response efforts when communities need it most. MRC thanks all partner agencies for their cooperation, and extends its appreciation to every volunteer who gave their time and effort without pause throughout the response.
