As part of this project, activities like the coastal cleanup bring volunteers and community members together to care for the natural ecosystems that sustain island life contributing to ecosystem restoration while building the connections and sense of shared responsibility that strengthen community resilience. For a city like Fuvahmulah, shaped by its relationship with the sea, keeping coastal areas clean and protected is an act of community care as much as environmental action.

Through activities like this, MRC aims to engage volunteers and communities in creating greener, healthier environments across the islands fostering a culture of environmental responsibility that complements its humanitarian work and contributes to the project’s broader goal of more resilient and cohesive communities across the south.
MRC extends its sincere thanks to the High Commission of Canada for their support through the CFLI, and to all the volunteers who gave their time and commitment to make the cleanup a success.
