In June 2026, MRC conducted a specialised first aid training for participants of the Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives (BVISM) Annual Camp, training 19 participants (10 male & 9 Female) in essential first aid skills. The training builds on a prior collaboration between MRC and BVISM, with a similar workshop having been conducted in 2021 making this a continuation of a meaningful partnership aimed at making first aid education inclusive and accessible to persons with visual impairments.

Unlike a standard first aid training, this session required careful and deliberate preparation. MRC's trainers drew on lessons from the 2021 collaboration and conducted dedicated practice sessions ahead of the training including blindfolding themselves to refine their communication methods, strengthen their use of descriptive language, and develop a deeper understanding of the participants' experience. This preparation ensured the training was fully aligned with participants' needs from the outset.

The training was delivered by four of MRC's first aid trainers, supported by three first aiders, ensuring that every participant received personalized guidance throughout. This approach allowed participants to complete practical exercises with confidence, in a learning environment where they could fully engage, ask questions, and build their skills at their own pace.

Through the training, participants gained lifesaving skills that empower them to respond effectively in emergencies. At the same time, MRC's trainers gained valuable insight into adapting teaching methods, improving descriptive communication, and tailoring practical content to diverse needs. This learning will directly inform how MRC designs and delivers inclusive training in the future.
This training is a reflection of MRC's belief that building a resilient community means ensuring no one is left behind. First aid is for everyone and MRC remains committed to making that a reality across all communities in the Maldives.
