Migrants make up a significant part of communities across the Maldives, and are often among the most vulnerable in times of need. Building on MRC's ongoing work to understand and respond to migration needs including the publication of the Migration and Displacement Needs Assessment in 2024, this training is part of a deliberate effort to strengthen MRC's capacity to support migrants across its volunteer network.
The Migration Practitioner Training aims to build a pool of trained volunteers and specialised staff equipped to respond to the first needs of migrants - providing practical skills and technical knowledge grounded in the approach and principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. Participants included volunteers alongside psychosocial support and health workers, ensuring that the skills developed can reach migrants across the different points at which they may need support.
By strengthening these capacities across MRC's network, the training contributes to more informed, inclusive, and resilient communities — and to the fuller inclusion of migrant populations in the Maldives. MRC thanks Transparency Maldives and the Italian Red Cross for their partnership in delivering this training, and to the volunteers who gave their time and commitment to the two days.
