The MoU brings together MRC's extensive volunteer network and community reach with MMS's technical expertise in weather and climate - creating a powerful partnership to bridge the gap between forecast data and community-level action. Together,, the two organizations will work to ensure that early warning information is not only generated, but understood and acted upon by the communities that need it most.
Through this partnership, MRC and MMS will work together to mobilise MRC's volunteer network in support of community-based weather monitoring, early warning activities, and the on-ground maintenance and awareness of Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) across islands nationwide. This deepens community ownership of early warning infrastructure and extends the reach of MMS's monitoring network through MRC's established presence at the local level. The partnership also seeks to advance climate literacy by embedding weather and climate awareness into MRC's volunteer training programmes and community outreach, and co-delivering training on climate action, disaster preparedness, and emergency response, connecting climate science to the communities it affects most.
Together, this partnership represents a meaningful step towards ensuring that early warning is not just a technical system, but a community-owned capability that reaches every island and empowers every Maldivian to act.
