About MRC Nepal Solidarity Fund
The "MRC Nepal Solidarity Fund" was opened by the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Nepal caused by the flash flood emergency in Rasuwa. The fund is open from 27th August 2026 to 03rd September 2026.
What happened
On 26th August 2026, a glacial lake outburst flood originating from the Xizang/Tibet area caused widespread destruction across northern Nepal, with the worst impacts reported in Rasuwa district and neighbouring Nuwakot.
Homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure have been badly damaged. Multiple bridges have been washed away, leaving the worst-affected communities extremely difficult to reach and hampering efforts to assess the full scale of the disaster.
The Nepal Red Cross Society has deployed teams towards the affected areas and is mobilising additional volunteers to support local branches. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has released nearly One Million Swiss Francs through its Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) to enable the Nepal Red Cross to act immediately. As the situation remains highly dynamic and the full scale of needs is yet to be established, further international support may be mobilised as assessments are completed.

Following the closure of the fund, contributions will be remitted in full to the Nepal Red Cross Society through the IFRC. The Nepal Red Cross Society is the largest humanitarian organisation in Nepal, with a branch network reaching every district in the country. Assistance is delivered by local volunteers who live in the affected communities, guided by the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement reaching those most in need, without discrimination. MRC will publish the total amount raised and confirm its transfer following the closure of the fund.
