From Our Volunteers - 2022
As communities across the Maldives began to find their footing again, MRC's volunteers were there. Hear what they had to say about their experience in 2022.

"Being able to do things that I love by taking photos of my volunteering journey, discover new interests and being able to help those in need is the reason why I enjoy volunteering. I have been able to work with other volunteers as a team and improve my ability to work with other people, and explore humanitarian work through the lens of a photographer and a volunteer." - Mohamed Samaah Ismail, Volunteer | Kulhudhuffushi City Unit

"Volunteering gives me a purpose in life and makes me feel an important part of society. The love I receive
from the community and bonding with my fellow volunteers and sharing our experiences gives me the strength to keep on volunteering." - Fathimath Rishma, Volunteer | Male City Unit

"Working towards the betterment of the elderly and helping facilitate healthy ageing is imperative to developing a more inclusive future for our community. Their knowledge and experiences were and continue to be invaluable in shaping our society. Taking part in activities focused on assisting the elderly has helped me gain a better understanding of the foundation they have laid out for our generation and how to build upon it." - Rausha Adam Waheed, Volunteer | Kulhudhuffushi City Unit

"Volunteering in the patient transport service has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Developing close connections with patients and their families, providing them with comfort and support and being able to see the positive impact that you have on their lives is rewarding. Seeing the direct impact of my work on the health and well-being of patients is especially memorable, and helps us develop more skills such as empathy & compassion, teamwork, and how to overcome challenges and solve problems as a team." - Haisam Shareef, Volunteer | Male' City Unit

The ERT is important to the community of Kulhudhuffushi because the community experiences frequent flooding during heavy rainfall as well as is susceptible to storm surges. The ERT provides a quick response in such emergencies and disasters - in case of a crisis, the ERT can assist with evacuation, search, and rescue, and provide first aid and other critical services. A well-functioning ERT can help to minimize the impact of a disaster on the community and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. During a flooding incident,
"I worked in responding to emergency hotline calls and conducting assessments. With these experiences, I’ve realized the importance of mitigative measures and preparedness for a disaster and fulfilling individual responsibility. It is a rewarding and fulfilling experience for individuals, as it provides the opportunity to give back to the community and make a positive impact during a crisis". - Raufa Mohamed, Volunteer | Kulhudhuffushi City Unit
