On 06th February 2023, The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) launched an Emergency Appeals for CHF 200 million to respond to a deadly 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Türkiye and Syria.

The Türkiye and Syria Relief Fund was opened by Maldivian Red Crescent on 07th February 2023, in response to Emergency Appeal by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to respond to the deadly earthquake in Türkiye and Syria and support the relief efforts. The relief fund was opened from 07th – 14th February 2023, and raised a total of MVR 2,990,618.91 in 07 days.

Maldivian Red Crescent completed the transfer of funds to Syrian Arab Red Crescent and Türkiye Red Crescent on 04th April 2023. A total of USD 97,050.87 were transferred to Syrian Arab Red Crescent and USD 97,050.87 to Türkiye Red Crescent (Grand total USD 194,101.74) in coordination with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The funds transferred will be utilized by Syrian Arab Red Crescent and Türkiye Red Crescent for the on-going response efforts and provision of humanitarian activities carried out in Türkiye and Syria

The funds raised from this initative goes towards the efforts of Turkish Red Crescent and Syrian Arab Red Crescent who are mobilising teams to support communities affected. With harsh winter conditions making it unbearable for many and the vulnerable living conditions, particularly in Syria were further stretched from the impact of the earthquake. This appeal will be targeted towards delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected areas and individuals in Türkiye and Syria through the IFRC Emergency Appeal.
