Empowering Communities through First Aid & Psychological First Aid Training

As climate related vulnerabilities increase, the capacity for localized and effective response has never been more critical. First Aid and Psychological First Aid (PFA) are essential components of resilience-building, equipping communities with the capacity to respond effectively in emergencies.

As part of the Maldivian Red Crescent’s (MRC) ongoing efforts to strengthen community resilience, we are proud to share the progress achieved under MRC’s Strategic Priority 2: Strengthen First Aid & Psychosocial Support Services, in 2025.

This year, MRC conducted 45 First Aid Training sessions, equipping 808 individuals with life-saving skills across the Maldives. These trainings ensure that more people within our communities are prepared to provide immediate assistance during emergencies, bridging the critical gap before professional help arrives.

MRC also recognizes the profound impact of psychological distress during emergencies. This year, we organized 20 Psychological First Aid Trainings and Sessions, reaching more than 450 individuals. By providing the tools to manage stress and trauma, PFA training empowers individuals to support themselves and others during times of crises.

Our progress is made possible by a dedicated pool of trainers - 24 active in First Aid, and 17 in Psychological First Aid. These trainers are not only skilled practitioners, but also advocates for preparedness.

By strengthening First Aid and Psychosocial Support capacities in communities:

  •               Individuals gain the confidence to act decisively in emergencies.
  •               Trained community members can serve as first responders, ensuring faster, localized action.
  •               Resilient communities recover more quickly from disasters.

Through ongoing education and sustained community engagement, MRC continues to build resilience at the community level, creating a lasting culture of preparedness.
