Empowering Youth to take Community Leadership Roles and Become Changemakers - YABC Peer Educators Training

The focus of the YABC Peer Educators Training was equipping 15 dynamic youth individuals as peer-educators, enabling them to lead impactful sessions under the guidance of our Youth as Agents for Behavioral Change (YABC) project. The training was conducted in Male’ across 05 days, from 12^th – 16^th May 2024. This initiative brought together participants from across the nation, with many joining from our Male’ City Unit, Kolhufushi Unit, Fuvamulak Unit, Hithadhoo and, Kulhudhufushi City Unit.

Led by dedicated facilitators from MRC and, supported by IFRC and Pakistan Red Crescent, the training was meticulously developed to empower the participants. From energizing icebreakers and stress-relieving Qi Gong exercises to interactive sessions on active listening and interpersonal skills, each day was a step towards personal and community transformation.  

The heart of the training lay in practical group exercises where participants took charge through engaging activities and games. These exercises weren't just about skill-building; they nurtured critical thinking, empathy, and resilience— qualities essential for effecting behavioral change.

As the training progressed, participants delved into thematic areas crucial for community cohesion: non-discrimination, gender equality, social inclusion, and violence prevention. They honed their abilities in collaborative negotiation, non-violent communication, and mediation, gearing up to become catalysts for positive change.

Armed with these newfound skills and a passionate commitment to their communities, these YABC peer-educators are now prepared to empower their fellow youths, volunteers, and community members across the islands. Together, they are poised to shape a brighter, more harmonious future—one where non-violence and peace prevail. Their mission is clear: to promote a culture of non-violence and peace while empowering youth as leaders and change-makers in their communities.
