Press Release – Ali Fulhu Thuthu Foundation grants support to Maldivian Red Crescent
Ali Fulhu Thuthu Foundation has granted support to Maldivian Red Crescent today, at the AFT Grant Awarding Ceremony held in Champa Central Hotel. This grant will be used to assist the state’s broader goal of “Scaling up of National Capacity for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Maldives” to strengthen the capacity of islands in responding to disasters such as flooding. Maldivian Red Crescent as an auxiliary to the state has been assisting National Disaster Management Centre in implementing necessary programmes and attending to disasters and emergencies in Maldives.
This grant will be used to construct a water pump station and install portable flood mitigation water pumps to support Hdh. Kulhudhufushi and Hdh. Nolhivaram during emergencies in the island. These portable flood mitigation water pumps are to be used to respond during emergencies throughout the atoll by local councils with the support from Emergency Response Trained volunteers of MRC Hdh. Branch.
Since 2009 Maldivian Red Crescent has attended to all natural and man-made disasters that have occurred throughout Maldives. Maldivian Red Crescent has trained 449 members in Emergency Response Teams in 9 atolls including Hdh. Atoll as well as 46 National Emergency Response Teams that would be attending to any man-made and natural disasters and other emergencies when required.
The Maldivian Red Crescent acknowledges all the government agencies, partner organizations, local businesses, individuals and our volunteers for their support and assistance provided to work towards disaster risk reduction and disaster management.
