Secretary General

Aishath Noora Mohamed was first introduced to the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement as a young and active volunteer at the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami. Having traveled to Maldives after completing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Communications, she was one of the first volunteers to be trained to provide psychosocial support by American Red Cross and was actively involved in providing psychological first aid and psychosocial support to the most affected communities. She later joined the American Red Cross Psychosocial Support Programme implemented in the Maldives as the Community Project Manager, directly overseeing the programme implementation in three target Atolls. She was also engaged in orienting and managing more than 1500 volunteers spanning seven Atolls of the Maldives, and was an early advocate for promoting the fundamental principles of the RCRC Movement in the Maldives at the communities and through National media. Following the Programme closure, Noora worked as a Transition Coordinator to manage documentation, archiving and evaluation processes of the Psychosocial Support Programme, and to ensure smooth handover of institutional knowledge to IFRC Maldives.

Beyond her role as a staff of the Movement, Noora supported the MRC formation process and made substantial contributions to the development of the Volunteer Management Strategy and the work of the Program Development Subcommittee. She also participated in the first General Assembly of MRC as one of the 18 elected representatives from the capital city Male’. After being away to complete her Master’s degree in International Development Studies shortly after the MRC formation, she resumed in 2010 to provide advisory and technical support to MRC, especially in the area psychosocial support.
